UPDATE 7/30/2020 – A bit before Covid hit, I noticed people were having issues with Book Depository. Personally, I haven’t ordered any books recently, and with Covid now, I’m not sure your orders will reach you. I’ll do my best to order something soon and let you know.
Book Depository is a UK based online bookseller with a large catalog offered with free shipping to over 160 countries. The store was founded by a former Amazon employee. In 2011 it was acquired by Amazon. It was founded in 2004 with a motto to make “All Books Available to All”
And let me tell you, they follow up on their motto!
It was 2015 when I first discovered Book Depository, and ever since, I’ve been ordering books anytime I can spend some cash on the side. I didn’t believe it at first, but the books do come in 2 weeks time span to Europe.
Their website is very sleek and easy to use. Once you sign in you can create a wishlist, set up email preferences and set up payment options.
You can see the categories and order. Once you add an item to basket you will be taken to checkout where you enter your details and pay with a card or PayPal balance. I love the option of using PayPal on Book Depository.
Their shipping is always free! The books arrive well packed and in great condition since they are new. I always got bookmarks that I colored later.
Those were the positives.
If you order multiple books at the same time, they will probably pack it in different packages. It can sometimes be tiresome to wait for multiple shipments for some users.
I once preordered a book, but it never reached its warehouse. This was not directly connected with the Book Depository service, the publisher didn’t send the prints, but I still didn’t get my book and they had to notify me that it’s not available anymore.
It happened that my book didn’t arrive in two weeks, I contacted them and they sent a replacement copy. I ended up getting both at the same time. So sometimes shipping delays happen, Book Depository customer support was willing to help me in any way.
The tracking number for orders is more internal as I couldn’t track it on my post office website. Book Depository does take a while to dispatch (about 3 days), so make sure to consider that when ordering.
This was my experience for a total of about 15 books I bought through the years.
