The Magic of Spiritual Awakening: Are You Ascending in 2021?
Last Updated on April 3, 2021 by Mileva Stankovic
The world we live in today brought many hardships upon us. Humanity is battling for survival and people are hoping they will get through the pandemic safely. If you were to scour social media and take a good look, many people are reporting going through certain emotions that shook them to their core. That emotional state those people are going through could easily be connected to spiritual awakening.
According to the spiritual awakening definition, spiritual enlightenment can be described as a complete awareness of the situation we’re in. it’s present in almost all cultures and religious beliefs. Related terms in Asian culture are moksha, Bodhi, satori, kensho, while in Christianity it refers to the Age of Enlightenment. Today we’ll talk about what it feels like and what are the signs you’re starting to wake up.
When Does Spiritual Awakening Happen?
The shift of your conscious minds can happen at any time during your lifespan. It doesn’t have to be directly related to a traumatic event, but it often is. You might experience a loss or win in gambling, only to bet one last time and make it all disappear.
Some paranormal incidents or dreams can also cause a spiritual awakening. This is why it’s no wonder many people around the world are experiencing some symptoms of spiritual awakening. The pandemic can easily be the main reason it happened.
Some would say that the prerequisite of spiritual enlightenment is meditation or reading about similar topics, but again, that doesn’t mean that spiritual awakening will definitely happen if you meditate daily. It does, however, happen more often among those people who work on their consciousness and sub(un)consciousness, who aim to become better and reach other stages of awareness.
What Does Spiritual Enlightenment Feel Like?
Contrary to some beliefs, spiritual awakening often feels painful. Even though it’s presented as a good achievement and a goal to chase, enlightenment brings a lot of suffering. While it’s a process that’s supposed to lead you to a path of bliss and harmony, starting it can make you feel lonely, broken, and struggling to keep going.
It can make you feel as if you don’t want to exist, but still want to stay in this world to observe.
Spiritual awakening can make you doubtful and powerless.
The main reason you feel like that is our society. You grew up following traditional social norms. These norms feel too much when you start your path of spiritual awakening. Rules seem bendable and often unnecessary. You start questioning everything around you and how the world works. You find little sense in things you blindly followed until recently.

It’s also hard because your mind will do everything it can to protect you from pain. The mind we have today has served us for thousands of years. It protected us from hardships and we listened to it, blindly believing that if it says something is dangerous, we should avoid it at all costs.
It’s similar to suddenly deciding you’ll start going to the gym. You’ll suffer some muscle pain, and your mind will make up excuses not to go. Spiritual awakening is hard and that’s why your mind will try to force you to quit. Still, your soul knows it’s the right path to take.
What Does Spiritual Enlightenment Mean?
It means that you’re ready to see the world and yourself in it with another set of eyes. You set up on the journey of spiritual awakening, meaning you’re ready to leave behind your ego, attachments, repression, misdirection, and other programs this society bestowed upon you and achieve more. You’re ready to leave behind your justifications, self-image, beliefs, and many more deeply rooted things that prevent you from making spiritual progress.
Mental Symptoms of Spiritual Awakening
There are many spiritual awakening signs to tell you that you’re starting to wake up. These include, but are not limited to
- The feeling of being connected with nature and other people
- The need to simply let things happen
- Sudden ability to enjoy each moment
- Loss of interest in judging
- Strong love towards the world
- Vivid dreams
- The feeling of disconnect
- Reevaluating beliefs
- Increased number of synchronicities
- Higher intuition
- Increased empathy
While these are mostly mental symptoms of spiritual awakening, there are also physical ones.
Physical Symptoms of Spiritual Awakening
Spiritual awakening has many physical symptoms that may include strange bodily sensations, such as sleep disturbances, fatigue, brain fog, and similar. You might suddenly start laughing or crying without any obvious reasons. Your weight might change and you might have cravings. Dizziness, amplified senses, episodes of intense energy are also common, together with heart palpitations and hot flashes. If any of these worry you, feel free to talk with your doctor.
These are the most common spiritual awakening symptoms that people experience. These are often life-changing and can come suddenly.
Spiritual Awakening Stages
Similar to other things in life spiritual awakening comes at stages. The spiritual awakening process doesn’t happen immediately, although it can happen suddenly without any warning. So far we’ve observed seven stages of spiritual awakening. These are:
- The awakening – the toughest, lowest, and most confusing stage.
- The dark – the challenging step to take, since the soul is stripping away ego.
- The sponge – this is the moment when you start exploring the new world around you, like new hobbies, relationships, or religions.
- The satory self – in this stage you begin to see your true self.
- The soul sessions – in this stage, you’ll be building the actual life in which your soul can make progress.
- The surrender – this is the moment when you’re supposed to release it all. You now know your soul and the lifestyle it needs.
- The awareness – the final stage is the complete awareness of self. You live your divine presence and life brings you contentment.
Spiritual Awakening Test
To make this article a little interesting, here are some spiritual enlightenment tests you can take. Keep in mind that these tests are mostly for fun.
How do I Start Being Spiritual?
If you feel like you’re ready to go on this path, you can start reading some books for spiritual awakening. We’ll cover those as a separate topic soon.
As with anything else in life, surround yourself with others who want to be on the same path. Spiritual awakening is easier with the company. Together, you can share stories and uplift one another.
Make space for change. Once you step on this path, chances are many things in your life will change and often you’ll need to make space for those changes.
Let it take you over. Sometimes if you chase it, it won’t come. That’s why you’ll have to welcome it to your reality. Again, be ready for the upcoming changes and turbulence.
Another way to embrace spirituality is to practice meditation, affirmation, get outside, and take a break from technology. keeping a gratitude journal is also of immense help.
Becoming spiritual in today’s world means renouncing the life you have lived so far. For the end, we’ll finish with a quote:
“There is no coming to consciousness without pain. People will do anything, no matter how absurd, to avoid facing their own souls. One does not become enlightened by imagining figures of light, but by making the darkness conscious.”– Carl Jung
